Celebrating 50 years of St. Alban's history.

Here is a copy of the letter being mailed out to past members, their families, and others who have been a part of St. Alban’s history to invite them to our 50th Anniversary celebration on November 10th:

On behalf of the vestry and congregation of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Lexington, we would like to invite you to a special celebration of Holy Eucharist with the Rite of Confirmation, Reception and Reaffirmation, commemorating the 50th anniversary of our church, on Sunday, November 10th at 10:30 a.m.  The Right Reverend Daniel P. Richards, Bishop of the Diocese of Upper South Carolina will preside and preach.  A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.

It is hard to believe that a small group of Lexington area Episcopalians first met with the Venerable William Beckham, the Archdeacon for the Diocese of Upper South Carolina, 50 plus years ago to explore the possibility of establishing an Episcopal church in the Lexington area. For several years, discussions continued until a Mission was created. That Mission would become St. Alban’s.

From our first worship service on November 10, 1974, in the Lexington Elementary School Auditorium to the present, St. Alban’s has seen many changes. Services were held at several locations until property could be purchased and a church building erected. On May 22, 1977, the first service in the new St. Alban’s Sanctuary was held. Other additions and improvements soon followed and now form our current campus.

Over the years, the St. Alban’s church family has experienced many joys and sorrows. We have welcomed many new members and said “farewell” to old and dear friends.  But through the years our church had survived, thrived and steadily grown stronger, and it continues to be a blessing to God and God's people in the Lexington community.  Now, we are looking forward to see what God has in store for St. Alban's.

We are reaching out because YOU and your family are an important part of our history and success. It is our fervent hope that you will join us for worship and fellowship on Sunday, November 10th to share in this exciting day of celebration and help us remember our first 50 years of history.
